Professional Background
Since earning my doctorate from Fordham University in 1992, I have worked with increasing levels of responsibility, in teaching and administration. My fields of expertise include theology, pastoral and crisis counseling. I have special expertise with international students.
My teaching experience includes undergraduate generalist courses, undergraduate major courses in theology, pastoral skills development for graduate ministry students, and doctoral courses in theology. Over the years I have taught courses in writing across the curriculum, freshman development, and service learning programs. My publications include articles and books. I have directed doctoral dissertations, done peer reviews for a professional journal, and have edited the writings of a colleague in political science. On a recent trip to Haiti I wrote a grant proposal for a small medical mission and research center. I have excellent critical thinking, writing, and public speaking skills.
While at Duquesne University I taught courses in the Honors College, developed service learning courses for my department, and taught with other faculty members in a learning community. To further my development, I accepted a position as a hospital administrator in California, as Director of Spiritual Care and Mission Services. My CV highlights my accomplishments during my time there.
My experience with international studies is both personal and professional. I was a student in France as an undergraduate at the University of Notre Dame. I encouraged my children to study abroad as well during their university studies and visited them in Italy, France and Ireland. I have lived, worked or studied in East Africa, Israel and France. During my time as Director of Field Education in California I helped the international graduate seminary students adjust to life in the United States. Our family is international; my late husband and I adopted two children from Uganda. By birthright I have dual citizenship in the U.S. and Ireland, and have a home in Ireland.
